A look inside the AP preseason poll

If you've never checked out Pollstalker, you should. It provides the ballots for every Associated Press Top-25 voter and helps you find out who is consistent and who is crazy.

A look at the preseason poll finds MSU ranked as high as No. 9 and as low as unranked.

Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer is the voter who has MSU at No. 9. No other voter has them higher than 12. Lesmerises was very high on the Spartans last year and had them ahead of Ohio State for much of the season. Lesmerises has the Buckeyes at No. 17 on this ballot.

The two voters who had MSU unranked were Bob Condotta, of The Seattle Times, and John Clay, of The Lexington Herald-Leader in Kentucky. Including MSU, Clay has four teams in what are considered "extreme rankings."

As for local voters, Jeremy Sampson of WLIX-TV in Lansing had MSU at No. 16 and John Niyo of The Detroit News had them at No. 15.

It's just something fun to take a look at and play with. I'll try to break down the poll each week this season.
